Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) Canada

Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY) is an evidence-based program that works with families in the home to support parents, primarily mothers, in their critical role as their child’s first and most important teacher. HIPPY strengthens families and communities by empowering mothers to actively prepare their children for success in school.

Over the past 16 years, HIPPY Canada has reached out to provide more than 7,400 low-income newcomer, Aboriginal and other Canadian mothers with structured lessons and practical information that develop their own and their children’s personal skills, ensuring both children and families a better opportunity to succeed in school and society.

In Canada, HIPPY’s efforts to measure results, combined with more than 20 years of research in the United States and eight other countries, have proven the benefits of the program for children, mothers, families and communities.

Monthly Stories of Change

Congratulations to Erika Infante Pizarro & Jenny Duquette, recipients of the 2016 HIPPY Canada Because Mothers Matter Award!

Jenny Duquette is from the Mistawasis Nation in Saskatchewan. Jenny’s daughter passed away three years ago and Jenny has been raising her granddaughter, who is currently in HIPPY, ever since. As a Home Visitor, Jenny is a dedicated member of the HIPPY team at Saskatoon Tribal Council, helping to provide families with services to educate, heal, and empower.

Erika Infante Pizarro came to Canada from Mexico in 2006. Through her perseverance, love of her family and personal strength, Erika has become a role model for other immigrant women by taking full advantage of every opportunity; first a HIPPY parent, then as a HIPPY Home Visitor, and now as a Family Support Worker in Vancouver.
